On May 8th the Benton County chapter of the Small Woodlands Association hosted a wildflower hike, one of several outdoor gatherings held by the chapter over the past several months. The hike was attended by a dozen people and was led by Mike Albrecht. We started from the Oak Creek parking lot of the Bald Hill natural area. We followed the trail up Mulkey Creek, along some pastures and up the hill into the woods. The diverse habitat provided the opportunity to observe many different kinds of wildflowers and plants. Although no one was keeping track, we probably saw several dozen different species of plants. Hopefully everyone came away being able to recognize some new plants.
